GAMBLETRON is a Queer, non-binary, interdisciplinary sound/ performance artist and musician based out of Tiohtià:ke. (socalled Montreal)
They are known for their noise-electronic improvisation, multi-tonal “AM Radio Theremin”, roving transmitted “Field Trips”, “Noise Karaoke.” and their performance-based media collaborations with artist Johnny Forever Nawracaj.
Musically Gambletron is a sonic scavenger collecting technical runoff, incorporating old, new and unlikely technology into their art and music. They deeply committed to improvisational methods - working predominantly with radios, tiny synths, and homemade electronics oftentransmitted through a pile of FM radios. The result is usually loud, heavy, doomy and dancey.
They take pride in activating projects in unlikely spaces. Gambletron loves interactivity, audience participation and resonant space.
Their art practice functions in both sonic performance, installation and sculpture. Their artwork and integration with other performers an extension of their musical practice focusing on the integration of radio, and experimental sound. They explore themes of anti-zionism, queerness and tech communication breakdown often working with long timecollaborator Johnny Forever Nawracaj. Gambletron’s performances function as temporary pirate radio stations evocative of subtle methods of resistance to corporate and state control of communications technology.
As a composer and musician they have worked creating scores for film, performance art, theatre and dance. They are a multi-instrumentalist and a founding member of Orkestar Kriminal. They have collaborated and participated in numerous projects found on Constellation Records such as Matana Roberts, Carla Bozulich, Hrsta, and Nive Nielsen and the Deer Children.
Gambletron’s art and music has toured internationally and participated in festivals and residencies around the world, such as Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville, Donau Festival, Austria and Redbull Music Academy’s Drones activity In Progress.
