Aaron Leaney
Aaron Leaney is a saxophonist, multi-instrumentalist and composer based in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The Trinidadian-Canadian musician “has a garrulous, sing-song delivery that calls to mind a relaxed, less possessed Fred Anderson. He’s a natural, like a furry moth at your window” (Larry Cosentino, Signal To Noise #50). After completing his Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies under saxophonist, Pat LaBarbara at Humber College in Toronto his musical journey led him to the vibrant avant-jazz, experimental and improv communities of Montreal. His upcoming 2022 vinyl LP “Lockdown” is a collaboration with elder and founder of Le Nouveau Jazz Libre de Quebec in 1967 the drummer, Guy Thouin. Leaney is a longstanding member in the Ratchet Orchestra and most recently is actively performing with the newly formed collective, Nebula featuring Nicolas Caloia and Kalmunity founder, Jahsun. His past music projects include collaborations with Michel Lambert, 2015 GAMIQ award nominated trio, Bord à Bord and Brandon Valdivia aka Mas Aya (Lido Pimienta). Leaney has performed with David Virelles, Chris Dadge (Lab Coast), Jean Derome, Lori Freeman, Jason Sharp, Ian Jarvis & Isaiah Ceccarelli, to name just a few.
