Fahmid Nibesh, Cordelia Donovan, Élise Paradis & Chloé Jackson-Reynolds
Fahmid Nibesh is an improviser based in Tiohtià:ke/Mooniyang/Montréal. Improvisation, as a creative and generative praxis, fuels and guides his spiritual growth through an otherwise violent and hyper consumptive economic paradigm. He is a multi-instrumentalist influenced by Will Alexander (poet), Anthony Braxton (musician, theorist), Stan Brakhage (filmmaker), Solvey Johnsgaard (visual artist), the AACM (creative music collective), among countless others (including his cats). He has performed solo, in ensembles and residencies, and is a member of the electroacoustic duo Wenderly Park (with Tkaronto's “cultural archivist” Joe Strutt). He works as an A/V technician and on occasion, can be found video documenting DIY/improv events.
Cordelia Donovan is a Manitoba-born vocalist and multi-instrumentalist known for her raw emotion and intricate melodies. As the force behind Cordie M. Sad, she crafts immersive performances exploring grief and resilience. Trained in percussion and voice, she founded The Gander Jam in Vancouver. She has also fronted tribute bands and collaborated on a jazz-pop album. Passionate about vocal experimentation, she is an artist-in-residence for Trading Places: Un Échange.
Trained violinist, Élise Paradis is also multidisciplinary musician. They take an evolving approach to their practice, first based on the historical understanding of the violin in its earliest expression since their studies in McGill's Department of Early Music and continuing to use the full spectrum of this basic sound in their arrangements and participation in musical projects of all kinds: from noise, to rock, to chanson, to neo-soul to ambient music composition. Improvisation and extended playing techniques are key in their exploitation of the possibilities offered by their medium.
Chloe Jackson-Reynolds is a 20 year old Montreal based improviser, composer, bandleader and multi-instrumentalist. Regina born, she moved to Montreal in 2023 to pursue a degree in music at McGill University. Growing up in such a small scene, she learned to improvise and write through a passion for the music and listening to countless records. She plays a whole variety of woodwind instruments from bass recorder to alto clarinet to bass saxophone to flutes, and is proficient in all. She’s released 6 albums on her bandcamp and one EP, and was featured on the bandcamp blog post “The Best Jazz on Bandcamp: January 2022” for her album “The Winter Concert”. She now frequently performs both with McGill University and within the experimental scene within Montreal with groups such as Mardi Spaghetti and Everyday Ago.
