FLORENCE BLAIN MBAYE
Florence Blain Mbaye is a multidisciplinary artist, a double graduate of the Conservatoire d'art dramatique de Montréal and the Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal.
A singer-songwriter, oboist, singer, sound designer, and musical director, she produced and directed her first solo album, Les lignes désir, in 2023. As an oboist, she has won numerous awards at the provincial and national levels and has performed in Europe, Asia, and the United States with the Orchestre Mondial des Jeunesses Musicales. She was accepted into the prestigious UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra, where she continued her training under the direction of renowned conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Charles Dutoit, Michail Pletnev, Sir Andrew Davis, and Esa Pekka Salonen.
Since 2008, she has performed as a freelance oboist with Canadian and international ensembles such as the Orchestra Nacional y Coros de Madrid, the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal, Les Violons du Roy, the Ensemble Contemporain de Montréal, and the Laval, Longueuil, Sherbrooke, Trois-Rivières, and Estuaire Symphony Orchestras. A studio musician, she can be heard on several albums, including "L'amour est un fantôme" and "Ornithologie la nuit" by Philippe B, and "Aimer les Monstres" by Émile Proulx-Cloutier. She has released her first album (co-produced and co-directed with Pierre-Philippe Côté/Studio Le Nid).
On stage, she has participated in several theater productions, including Cabaret Noir (MAYDAY), Civilization and Its Discontents (DLD Danse), Salle de nouvelles (Théâtre Niveau Parking), and Sappho (Théâtre de l'Affamée), and has contributed to inclusive projects such as Traversée (Voyageurs Immobiles), a bilingual show performed in French and LSQ. As an actress, she has appeared in films such as Cette Maison by Miryam Charles (presented at the 2022 Berlinale) and Faire un enfant by Éric K. Boulianne (awarded at Locarno).
On television, she has recently appeared in Bellefleur by Sarah-Maude Beauchesne and Nicolas Morel and in Dumas by Luc Dionne. She also lends her voice to the French versions of films such as Inside Out 2, The Color Purple, and The Holdovers.
