Indian Giver
Indian Giver is an Indigenous-led hardcore band with artists from Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. Their music is as urgent as the issues still facing Indigenous communities across Turtle Island. Indian Giver's message is straightforward - they aim to promote reconciliation through reclamation. They seek to take back the spaces of punk, hardcore, and metal which have been predominantly dominated by white artists and audiences for decades. What was once regarded as a derogatory term, Indian Giver is using it to hold a flame and provide clear instructions to reclaim all that has been lost or stolen by colonialism.
The debut full-length “DARK LEGACY III” (out July 19th, independent) speaks to Indigenous lived experiences at the intersection of technology and the human spirit. It explores how colonialism has, and continues to, degrade the lives of people at the margins of society. The album shines a light on the group’s unwavering commitment to finding balance with creation in the modern world.
