Jardin Botanique avec John Kiran Fernandes
Jardin botanique — Kate Bundy and Jean-Guillaume Bastien — is a bilingual, Montreal-based experimental synth duo blending organic and synthetic sound worlds. Combining songwriting with an exploratory approach, playful improvisation, and intuitive collaboration, the project treats music as a living ecosystem shaped by growth, decay, and care.
John Kiran Fernandes is a longtime member of the Elephant 6 Collective who joined the psychedelic pop group The Olivia Tremor Control in Athens, Georgia, in 1994. He later co-founded Circulatory System with fellow band members, including Will Cullen Hart. An active and influential presence in the Athens music scene, Fernandes continues to perform and record with numerous collaborative projects rooted in experimental pop traditions.
These artistic paths converged in the creation of Isthmus, a collaborative album released in September 2025 on Fernandes’ label, Cloud Recordings. The project brings together Jardin botanique’s textured layers of synthesizers and tape with Fernandes’ exploratory clarinet work. The record forms a poetic bridge between two cities — Montreal, QC and Athens, GA — linking distinct musical lineages through shared experimentation and dialogue.
