Nennen
Soft metal, or maybe hard folk. Evoking the ferocity of doom and the spaciousness of slowcore, Nennen's expressive songs create a slow burn, tracing a line between tension and release, intimacy and distance, total control and complete unraveling.
With devastating precision, Macdonald’s lyrics map the tender terrain of our obligations to others and to ourselves, passing through broken promises, unexplained silences, blossoming bonds, and emotional revolutions. The result is striking, raw, unflinchingly vulnerable, and deeply beautiful.
Nennen’s 2016 self-released full-length debut, Two Mountains, garnered glowing reviews and charted at #3 on campus radio stations CJLO and CKUT. Since then, Nennen has honed its sound as a regular feature on Montreal stages, opening for artists like Tess Roby, Ought, King Woman, Faith Healer, and Thus Owls, with appearances at festivals including Pop Montreal, Suoni per il Popolo, and Flourish Festival.
Nennen’s second full-length album will be released in May 2025.
