Sam Shalabi Septet
Sam Shalabi, one of Montreal’s most prolific and dynamic artists has assembled a dream team for this event. The new ensemble that is the Sam Shalabi Septet is the result of imagining a group that could play and perform music that is closer to the collage/montage based music of Sam’s solo albums. They are all musicians whose singular and unusual approach to their craft blends perfectly with the 'hybrid ' approach of this piece which mixes arabic, punk, synth pop, broadway show tunes, jazz, improv, theater and text with a perverse use of microtonality. The members are : Dina Cindric: piano and vocals, Pierre Guy Blanchard: percussion, synthesizer and electronics. Naomi Mccarroll Butler: reeds, flutes and electronics. Sarah Albu: vocals and electronics. Erika Angell: vocals and electronics. Adrianne Munden Dixon: violin and electronics and Sam Shalabi: oud, electronics, electric guitar and composition.
